"Discovered by Robert Boggs in 1775 - the clean, cool water flowing from the cave took the name Boggs Fork which is a tributary of Boone Creek. Slaves lived a quarter mile downstream of the cave mouth. The height of the cave is at 4' for 350', gradually declining to 2' at a distance of 900'. The water is knee deep with the width varying from 15' at the mouth to 3'. There are some side branches that are too small for humans. The course of the cave goes directly under the Cabin (now Tenant House). There is 30' of solid limestone between cave roof and Cabin foundation. It is known that water flows from other properties a half mile to the northwest. The reason that Cave Spring Farm exists today is because of the ever-flowing water issuing from the cave."
